Australian poet and environmental activist whose literary works include The Moving Image, Hunting Snake, and Birds. After publishing A Human Pattern: Selected Poems, she became the 1991 recipient of the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
Before Fame
She studied at the University of Sydney. She published her debut poetic work, The Moving Image, in 1946.

She was the president of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland from 1965-1976.
