Medieval poet and cleric known for his poem titled El Libro de buen amor (The Book of Good Love). The poem was about romantic love and the spiritual love of God. It is considered one of the most important long poems in the literature of medieval Spain. It has survived in three different incomplete manuscripts. 

Before Fame

He was educated in Toledo. He became the Archpriest in the Spanish village of Hita. 

Trivia

He composed popular songs. It is believed he was imprisoned from 1337 to 1350. Critics have called him the equal of the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer.
