Singer-songwriter who self-identifies as a queer woman of color. She is best known for her albums In Defense of My Own Happiness and Carry Me. Carry Me was funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Her joyoladokun Instagram account features professional portraits, performances photos, promotional appearances and informal selfies with friends. She has amassed180,000 followers on the account.
Before Fame
Tracy Chapman's music inspired her at the age of ten to start learning to play the guitar. In 2015, she released her indie debut EP Cathedrals.
Trivia
National Public Radio (NPR) included her song "I See America" on its list of the 100 best songs of 2020.
Family Life
She was raised in Arizona. Her parents are Nigerian immigrants who raised her as part of a close-knit Christian church. She left the church eventually because she felt it limited her creativity.
