Before Fame
He started playing the bass at the young age of nine. His early influences included Metallica's Cliff Burton and Anthrax's Frank Bello. He was inspired to switch to guitar after hearing Paul Gilbert's technically formidable playing in Racer X.

When Stone Sour went on hiatus in 2020, Rand teamed up with Paralandra vocalist Casandra Carson to form what's knowna s the LIFE Project. Their debut single was released in April of 2021.
