Early in his acting career, he performed on Broadway in The Whirlwind (1919-1920); Near Santa Barbara (1921); Smooth as Silk (1921); and Bewitched (1924).

Also a stage performer, he is particularly notable for his portrayal of Giles Corey in the original Broadway production of Arthur Miller's famous play The Crucible.
