He graduated from Jericho High School in New York in 1982. He started his professional career with the band Industry as their lead singer, keyboardist, and songwriter. During his time with the band, they had a hit single with "State of the Nation" in 1984.

Trivia

He produced, wrote, and arranged Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler's 2006 solo album "Richard Butler." He and Butler each dedicated the album to their father.
