Joe Schmidt

About

Former rugby player turned coach that began his career as an assistant with the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union team. Since then, he has coached rugby in different leagues across France, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia. In January 2024, he signed a multi-year deal with the Australian men's national team. 

Before Fame

He is a graduate of Tararua College. At that time, he was training to become a school teacher. 

Trivia

While coaching Team Ireland, he his led his squad to victory at the 2018 World Rugby Cup. That very same year, he was named World Rugby Coach of the Year.

Family Life

He lives along with his wife, Kellie, and their family. He is a father of four kids.
