Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor, ceramicist, and muralist best known for "The Tilled Field," "The Farm," and other surrealist works. His work paved the way for American abstract expressionist artists like Rothko and Pollock.
Before Fame
He was educated at the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc. His first solo exhibition at the Dalmau Gallery in 1918 made him the object of much ridicule.
Trivia
His painting, 'The Farm,' was purchased by author Ernest Hemingway.
Family Life
He was born into a family of goldsmiths and cabinet-makers. He married Pilar Juncosa 1929; their daughter, Dolores, was born two years later.
