About
Poet who is considered to be one of the most prominent modern Urdu poets, also known as ghazals. His work uses philosophy, logic, and Islamic history. Though he began writing poetry at the age of eight, his first publication entitled Shayad wasn't published until he was 60.
Before Fame
He studied at Syed-ul-Madaris in Amroha in his youth. His performance at the school gave him the reputation of a child prodigy.
Trivia
He was a polyglot, able to speak Urdu, Arabic, Sindhi, English, Persian, Sanskrit, and Hebrew. He received the Presidential Pride of Performance for his literary work.
Family Life
His father Shafiq Hasan Elia studied literature and astronomy. He was married to Zahida Hina from 1970 to 1984.
Associated With
His work was referenced in rapper Talha Anjum's album Open Letter in 2023.
