Actor and filmmaker far-famed for writing and starring in the 2020 Golden Horse Award-winning comedy drama film Number 1. He initially rose to stardom for starring in The Lion Men film franchise and the television drama series Love at Risk. He has also led the cast of films including Wonderful Liang Xi Mei the Movie, Fight Lah Kopitiam, and Fa Cai Lian Meng, the latter of which he also wrote.
Before Fame
After graduating from Nanyang Junior College, he relocated to Hong Kong, China, to study acting, hosting, singing, and songwriting. He continued his studies from the age of 18 to 23, along with classmates which included actors Romeo Tan and Andie Chen. He went on to attend the National University of Singapore's School of Computing, where he worked part-time as a VJ on an online radio station.
Trivia
In addition to acting and writing, he also recorded a single for the 2014 film The Lion Men: Ultimate Showdown, as well as a 2015 non-album single called "Heartbeat." In the year 2021, he was awarded with the Most Talented Chinese Artist Award by the World Chinese Economic Forum.
Family Life
His birth name is Yit Hann Lai. His father strongly disapproved of his wishes to become an actor at first. When he came to his parents in need of the $500 fee required to join a local talent agency at the beginning of his career, his mother provided him with the money under the condition that he keep the transaction a secret from his father. Later, however, after he earned a Golden Horse Award for his 2020 film Number 1, his father acknowledged and demonstrated pride in his son's career choice.
