Revered poet remembered for works like 1969's The Weather of Six Mornings and 1994's Green Notebook, Winter Road. She was a teacher and Poet in Residence at Sarah Lawrence College and later held the position of New York State Poet.
Before Fame
She lived in Jacksonville, Florida as a child and later attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa.
Trivia
In 1985 she received the first-ever Maurice English Poetry Award, given to a poet in his or her sixth decade of life.
