Indian poet and Bollywood lyricist who is best known for his Urdu nazms and ghazals. He is perhaps most remembered for a 1973 poetic work entitled "Khaak-e-dil" (The Ashes of Heart).

Before Fame

He attended Aligarh Muslim University. In 1949, he moved to Bombay to work as a film lyricist.

Trivia

He collaborated with Indian musical composers to write over 150 songs.

Family Life

He wed Safiya Siraj-ul Haq, with whom he had two sons. Following his first wife's death, he married Khadija Talat.
