His victory at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was Great Britain's first 1500m world title since Steve Cram in 1983. However, so convinced were UK Athletics' coaches that Wightman didn't stand a chance, that they'd already booked Wightman on a flight home only one hour after the 1500m medal ceremony was due to take place.
Family Life
His father and trainer, Geoff Wightman, represented England in the marathon at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. His mother, Susan Tooby, and his aunt represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games. His mother also started training him at age 11.
