American snowboarder who competed in the halfpipe at the 2018 Winter Olympics. He advanced to the finals of the halfpipe contest along with his teammates, Shaun White, Chase Josey, and Ben Ferguson, where he landed a big second run to finish in the top 12.
Before Fame
He began snowboarding when he was 8 when his mother took him to a local hill. He later began training with the Ski & Snowboard Club Vail in Colorado and earned a spot on U.S. snowboarding's national rookie team in 2014.
Trivia
He founded the Happy Healthy Brain Foundation in 2020 after consultations with other athletes who had also suffered from brain injuries. The goal of the organization is to increase awareness about concussion protocols and advance technologies surrounding brain care.

He is the son of Christopher and Amy Pates. He has two siblings, an older brother, Cole, and a younger sister, Charlie Sue.
