A bestselling author, he was known for more than sixty thrillers, including the 1975 classic, The Eagle Has Landed. Born Harry Patterson, he published under several pseudonyms, including Jack Higgins, James Graham, and Martin Fallon. He wrote over 70 books throughout his long career.

He served in the army and later earned a degree in sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Trivia
He authored the Paul Chavasse, Simon Vaughn, Liam Devlin, and Nick Miller book series. The last book he wrote was titled The Midnight Bell and was released in 2016.

His daughter, Sarah Patterson, also became a writer.
