German drummer best known as one of the founding members of the power metal band Helloween.
Before Fame
At the age of 14, he took clarinet lessons because his school music teacher encouraged it. He began playing folk music in a school band.
Trivia
In order to buy a professional drum kit, he worked at a common office for a period of two years and in a market in Hamburg. The band's previous names were Gentry, Second Hell and Iron First. Then, in 1984, while watching the movie Halloween, he got the idea to change the band's name yet again, the letter A being changed to E, thus becoming Helloween.
Family Life
In 1980, his father bought him his first drum kit. His father died in February 1995. A month later, he committed suicide by jumping in front of a subway train.
