Ian Foster

Rugby coach famous for being the head coach of New Zealand's All Blacks national rugby union team. He is also a former rugby union player.

Before Fame

During his playing career he made 148 appearances for Waikato, a union record. He also played 28 games for the Chiefs. After he retired, he also coached both teams.

Trivia

In his first two seasons as All Blacks manager, Foster managed a winning percentage of just 65 percent, which was down from the 85 percent his predecessor won.

Family Life

His father, Jack, was a Putāruru barber turned Presbyterian minister who trained in Dunedin and then returned to the North Island, taking his family with him. Jack passed away in 2018. He has three children with his wife, Leigh.

He took over from previous coach Sir Steve Hansen and inherited a squad that includes Sevu Reece, Aaron Smith, and Dane Coles.
