Before Fame

He got his start directing short films and his first known film is 2000's Our Sad Life. He made his first feature film debut with My Father in 2007. The Crucible (Silenced) was one of the biggest South Korean movies of 2011. 

Trivia

He said that he lost six teeth throughout the process of making Squid Game. Following the success of Squid Game, Netflix brought his previous movies The Crucible (Silenced), Miss Granny, and The Fortress to the service.

Family Life

He was born in Seoul, South Korea. Squid Game is based on his real-life experience with his mother, grandmother, and himself taking out loans after the 2008 financial crash.
