Before Fame
Entirely self-taught and inspired by the hip-hop and reggae scene in London, he turned to photography in the 1980s. He first earned international recognition in 2009 when he was shortlisted for Victoria & Albert Museum's Jameel Prize.
Trivia
He was the winner of the 2011 Sovereign Middle East and Africa Art Prize. His first feature film Karima: A Day in the Life of a Henna Girl premiered at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in May of 2015.
