About

Former Chinese badminton player known for her successful career in the 1980s and for being one of the greatest female badminton players in history. She won the IBF World Championships twice and also led Chinese teams to victory in women's world team competitions and in the Olympics. She died from lung cancer on October 16th, 2019.

Before Fame

She began her badminton training when she was ten years old. She trained at the Wuhan Amateur Sports School and showed a lot of talent, so she joined the Hubei provincial team in 1974. She finished second at the Chinese national championships in 1977. She joined the National Chinese team when she was 16 years old in 1978. Her badminton career really took off in 1982.

Trivia

She was inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame in the year 1998. After she retired from playing, she became a successful badminton coach. 

Family Life

She was born and raised in Wuhan, China. She and Guo Ming had two daughters together. Her daughter Guo Yushan became a badminton player as well, and her other daughter Han Yalu played tennis.
