About

American artist, entrepreneur, and author who was born by the name of Sara Gwendolen Frostic. A lifelong resident of Michigan, she was inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame for her naturalist Linocut block print artwork which she created using Original Heidelberg Platen presses. 

Before Fame

At 8 months old, she suffered a high fever that left her with lifelong symptoms similar to cerebral palsy. Despite her weak limbs, she developed an aptitude for art and went on to study art education at Eastern Michigan University and Western Michigan University.

Trivia

After World War II, Frostic started a production printing company in Wyandotte, Michigan, known as Presscraft Papers, by turning her linoleum block carvings into stationery goods and prints. She also created a 285-acre wildlife sanctuary and donated $13 million to Western Michigan University.

Family Life

She was born in Michigan to educators Sara and Fred Frostic. She was one of seven children. She had an older brother, Bill, and five younger siblings.

Associated With

Shortly after college, she set up a metal business in her family home, called Metalcraft, and was commissioned to make two copper vases for the wife of Henry Ford, Clara Bryant Ford.
