About

King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, most importantly a key ruler during the Thirty Years' War of Europe. He is famous for his military achievements and is studied as one of the best commanders in history. He died in the Battle of Lützen in 1632. 

Before Fame

He ascended the throne at age 16 after the death of his father Charles IX of Sweden. Multiple wars were ongoing at the time with countries such as Russia, Denmark, and Norway. 

Trivia

In Sweden and Finland, Gustavus Adolphus Day is celebrated on November 6th, which is the date of his death. He encouraged education and even opened a school during his time as King. 

Family Life

He married Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg in 1620, and the two had a daughter named Christina in 1626.
