He was born in Saint-Lary, Gers, France. He is 40 minutes younger than his twin brother Igor. His parents Dolores Franzyska Kolowrat-Krakowská and painter Yuri Mikhaïlovitch Osten-Sacken-Bogdanoff, and he was raised by his grandmother, Countess Bertha Kolowrat-Krakowská.
