One of three women who police rescued from the house of kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro in Cleveland, Ohio on May 6, 2013. In 2018, years after her rescue, she went on to open up the Cleveland Family Center for Missing Children and Adults.

She was friends with Ariel Castro's daughter Arlene. She has done many interviews since her rescue, and even went on to co-author a book about the events, titled "Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland."
