Former goalie that played hockey professionally in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 14 seasons. He is best known for his years with the Boston Bruins during the 1970s. After retiring in the year 1983, he began working as a coach and a professional scout.
Before Fame
He first began playing hockey as a teenager with the Trois-Rivières Reds. He was later selected by the Minnesota North Stars during the 1969 NHL draft.
Trivia
While playing with the Boston Bruins during the 1975 NHL season, he won an NHL record 17 straight games. At the end of that season, he finished winning over 84 percent of his matches. Gilbert was in net for Detroit on February 11, 1982, when the Vancouver Canucks became the first team with two successful penalty shots in the same game, as Thomas Gradin and Ivan Hlinka scored for the Canucks in the third period of a 4-4 tie.
