Singer and founder of the band Procol Harum, the group who released the popular song "A White Shade of Pale." After delving into a solo career in the late 1970s, he joined forces with Eric Clapton to play in Clapton's band for a couple of years. He released 3 solo studio albums and one solo live album.

As a child he taught himself how to play three instruments: the piano, the cornet, and the trombone.
Trivia
In June 2003 at the Queen's Birthday Honours, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire. During an era in England that saw the emergence of acts like The Beatles and The Animals, he and Robin Trower formed the band The Paramounts, in 1962, and the group even shared the stage with The Rolling Stones.
