Before Fame
Although he did not qualify for the 2016 Olympics, in 2017 he won the 400m at the NCAA Division I Championships in a world-leading time of 44.85 seconds, one of the top ten fastest indoor times ever.

Kerley is one of only three men in the world to have run the 100m dash in under 10 seconds, the 200m in under 20 seconds, and the 400m dash in under 44 seconds.
Family Life
His little brother Mylik also runs track, and also competed for Texas A&M, and in 2017 they ran together as part of A&M's 4 x 400m relay team, with Fred as the anchor, in a come-from-behind victory at the NCAA Division I championships.
