Before Fame
She performed in her first London stage production in 1899 and went on to make her Broadway debut in a 1904 production of Havoc.
Trivia
She played the character Grace Poole in the 1934 and 1943 screen adaptations of Charlotte Bronte's famous novel Jane Eyre.
Family Life
The child of stage performers Lillie Roberts and Samuel Rupert Woods, Griffies (born Ethel Woods) spent her youth in Sheffield, England. Following the death of her first husband, Walter Beaumont, she was married to English actor Edward Cooper for four decades (until his death in 1956).
Associated With
Late in her career, she played Mrs. Bundy in the famous 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds.
