He won the U.S. National Champion Welterweight title in three consecutive years from 2009-2011 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.

He won 9 of his first 11 matches by knockout. In 2015, ESPN named him Prospect of the Year. He made his professional debut in November 2012, winning his first fight in the third round with a knock-out of Jonathan Garcia.
