Before Fame

While dancing in high school, she also started competing in pageants, which culminated in being crowned Miss Black Canada.

Trivia

Although they haven't often acted together, she appeared in an episode of of Degrassi: Next Class as Mrs. Powers, the mother of Shay Powers, played by her daughter.

Family Life

She is of Jamaican and Native American descent. Her great grandmother and great aunt were her guardians growing up.
