American folk singer who has become one of the foremost performers of children's music in the world over the course of her five-decade-long career. She has appeared on a number of children's television shows, including Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and received a Grammy Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.

She grew up on the south side of Chicago and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with minors in Child Psychology and Recreation from San Francisco State University.
