He graduated from Washington High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was seventeen.

He flew helicopters for 20 years after returning to civilian life and his work included fighting wildfires and conducting animal censuses.

Family Life

He married Barbara Morgan in 1954 and they had two sons Mike and Doug.
