Center for NFL teams from 1965 to 1976. He signed with the Detroit Lions in 1965 and later moved to the San Diego Chargers between 1975 to 1976. He became known for his rivalry with Dick Butkus, who he called his greatest professional challenge. After his retirement as a player, he became a coach for the Oakland Invaders and the Arizona Rattlers.
