Dr. Doyin Okupe is a physician and politician from the North of Nigeria. Both his medical career and his influence on the political landscape of his country are vast and not without controversy. He worked for both Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan handling media and publicity for both People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidates. 

Before Fame

He studied medicine at the University of Ibadan and established the Royal Cross Medical Centre in Lagos early on in his career. He worked in politics through both the second and third Nigerian Republic formations before the militarized opposition temporarily halted him from entering political races in the 1990s. 

Trivia

Throughout the early 2000s, he was the subject of many controversies involving the embezzlement of funds allocated for public use. Most were handled through settlement or arbitration. He keeps a Twitter account that has gained more than 430,000 followers. 

Family Life

His father was a banker and Chief of their home state of Ogun. He has four brothers and two sisters. He married his wife Aduralere and together they had two sons. 

Associated With

In the Summer of 2022, his name splashed across headlines as he was selected as the running mate to PDP turned populist Labor Party (LP) 2023 Presidential candidate Peter Obi. However, he was simply a placeholder for Obi to meet filing deadlines and was later replaced on the ticket by a younger politician with fewer ties to the PDP.
