Before Fame

Mooney's first job was as a runner at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where he proved himself by working tirelessly all night long.

He presented the quiz show Who Knows Ireland Best? and the show was very well received.

Family Life

He lived in Kilmacud, a south Dublin suburb and is bisexual, with no intention of having children.

Mooney helped to search for the star of the Irish version of Annie. The film version starred Carol Burnett.
