Filmmaker who gained fame for his long tenure as a main director of the popular children's TV show Thomas the Tank Engine between 1984 and 2002. He also created the children's TV series Tugs in 1989.

He served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) after briefly attending art school. He left the RAF in 1962.

He was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film for his work on Thomas the Tank Engine in 1987. He worked as a special effects technician on the popular TV shows Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons in he 1960s.
