American politician, business executive, and former military officer known for serving as the CEO of Bridgewater Associates and running in the 2022 U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania and in the 2024 U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania which he won.
Before Fame
He attended West Point Military Academy and graduated in 1987 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War where he earned a Bronze Star for his service. He obtained a doctorate in public policy from Princeton University in 1996 after his military service ended. He transitioned into the private sector and held leadership positions at FreeMarkets and Ariba before joining Bridgewater Associates in 2009.

His political career began in 2005 by working for the Bush Administration as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security. He joined the Trump Administration's team in 2016 and worked as the US Deputy Secretary of Defense. He received an honorary degree from Dickinson College in 2021. He is the author of the book Superpower in Peril (2023).
