AIDS activist who famously appeared in LIFE magazine photographed as he was dying. The image shocked many and put a face to a disease which had not yet been fully understood at the time. 

Before Fame

He fought for recognition of AIDS when it was still controversial before dying from it himself.

Trivia

The famous photograph of him as he expired in his family's grieving arms was expressly agreed to by him as long as the picture was never used for profit. It remains one of the most seen pictures of its era.

Family Life

His family was very close to him and have advocated posthumously for him and his legacy. He was a loving son to his parents and a brother to his sister.
