Before Fame
He began his writing career in 1985 while he was still in college. His short story "The Sky Is an Open Highway" was published in the fall 1985 issue of the speculative fiction magazine The Leading Edge.

His 1989 novel On My Way to Paradise was nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award for Best Novel in the English Language.
