Before Fame

In his teenage years, he moved from Mexico to Texas, where he found work as a bricklayer. In the year 1957, he teamed up with Juan Peña to form a duo called Dueto Carta Blanca.

He played the Mexican string instrument, Bajo sexto. His music has featured in films such as The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) and A Better Life (2011). He was also an actor and appeared in films like Valente Quintero and La yegua colorada.

He was married twice. His first wife was called Mercedes Castro, and his second wife was called Marita.
