During his twenties, he worked as a sous chef at Mario Batali's Babbo in New York City. He had met Batali through Jake Gyllenhaal.

He had his book The Beetlejuice Farm Cookbook: A Year of Cooking on Martha's Vineyard published in June of 2015. It won a James Beard award in 2016.
