Politician and race car driver. He was a leading Formula One driver from 1972-1982. He won the Grand Prix 12 times and placed second at the World Drivers' Championship. He later moved to a career in politics and became a popular governor and senator. He was a member of the Justicialist Party.

His first wife was María "Mimicha" Bobbio. Their marriage ended in divorce, and in 2006, he married Verónica Ghio. He and his first wife shared two daughters, Cora and Mariana, as well as a grandson.
