Famous English pirate who was active primarily in the Bahamas and West Indies during the early 18th century. His nickname of Calico Jack is made of two parts, Jack as a nickname for his first name John, and calico because of his clothing. He was also famous for having female crew members Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
Before Fame
His name first appears in 1718, as a quartermaster on the Ranger ship of pirate Charles Vane.
Trivia
The area he was active in was known as the Pirates' Republic during the Golden Age of Piracy. The famous Jolly Roger pirate flag is often associated with him.

He was romantically linked to Anne Bonny and her child may have been his. He was born John Rackman.
