About

Novelist and writer who is best known for his collection of stories entitled Os Dragoes Nao Conhecem o Paraiso which was a landmark book for incorporating gay and queer characters into Brazilian literature. Through his fantasy inspired storytelling, he was able to confront issues regarding sexuality. 

Before Fame

He studied at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul but dropped out to pursue writing for the magazines Revista Nova and Revista Manchete. He published his first book in 1970 and earned representation from Premio Jabuti publishing in 1983. 

Trivia

Two of his short stories have been turned into feature films: Aqueles Dois in 1983 and Sargento Garcia in 2000. His novel Onde Andara Dulce Veiga was also made into a feature film in 2007.

He was born and raised in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
