Seasoned performer of the stage and screen who ascended into the limelight starring as Marvin Gaye in the 2014 Best Musical Theater Album Grammy Award-nominated Broadway musical Motown: The Musical. He portrayed George Washington in the Broadway production of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, and appeared in numerous television series including Queen Sugar and Snowpiercer.

Before Fame

After graduating from both Yale University's School of Drama and Temple University, he launched his acting career with appearances in feature films like Heaven Is for Real and television shows including House of Payne and Unforgettable. His portrayal of Marvin Gaye in Motown: The Musical marked his Broadway debut.

Trivia

He co-wrote the song Mary J. Blige song "Irreversible" on her album "My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1)." He portrayed the role of songwriter Terry Lewis in the BET miniseries The New Edition Story. He also starred in a lead role in the original Broadway production of Thoughts of a Colored Man in the year 2021.

After marrying costume designer Devario Simmons in 2019, the pair married in 2022.
