Politician and moderate Republican who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 2007. He represented a large part of central New York state. He became known for his work in environmental policy and contributed to the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.

He attended Utica College and went on to serve in the U.S. army from 1956-1958.

He was the chair of the Science Committee from 2001 to 2006. 

Family Life

He was the son of Elizabeth Monica Champoux and Sherwood Boehlert. He died due to complications of dementia when he was 84 years old.
