He started rapping in the early 1990s but believes he found his true artistry at a laundromat in Maine in 1997. His name is a pseudonym and he has never revealed his real name to protect his family history.

His father, a Marxist from Zimbabwe, met his mother, from Jamaica,  while earning his Ph.D. in the United States.
