Former NFL wide receiver and athlete that was originally taken by the Chicago Bears as a third round pick during the 1952 draft. Prior to being drafted, he played four years of college football at Stanford University. While at Stanford, he was a two-time consensus All-American.
Before Fame
He was a four-sport athlete while at Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego, California. During his high years, he played football, baseball, basketball and he was also a member of his school's track & field team.
Trivia
He caught exactly 201 passes during his eight-year NFL career. His career long was a catch for 69 yards. McColl made his third and final run for congress in the ear 1982 in the newly created 43rd Congressional District near San Diego. In the Republican primary, he once again ran a competitive campaign, but came in a close third to wealthy businessman Johnnie Crean, whom he refused to support due to Crean's false charges, and the eventual winner, Carlsbad Mayor Ron Packard.

He was a father and the husband of Barbara Blanche Bird. He and his wife had six children together.
