Football coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and former collegiate football player who notably served as the Pittsburgh Panthers' offensive lineman during the team's 1978-79 season. After shifting his focus to exclusively coaching the sport, he led the teams of institutions such as the Gilman School and the Saint Frances Academy.
Before Fame
He started his coaching career as an assistant for the Citadel Bulldogs in 1987, and later for the Gilman School beginning in 1988. He achieved his first head coaching title in 2021. He earned his first victory as an NCAA head coach of the Charlotte 49ers in a match against the South Carolina State Bulldogs in September of 2023.
Trivia
His initial contract as coach for the University of North Carolina came under fire for a salary that some critics deemed excessive. He went on to declare his intention to return 50% of his salary to the athletic program as a means of increasing the salaries of the assistant coaches.
Family Life
He and fellow Duke University alumnus Amy married after they completed their college education. They are the parents of five children named Mary, Mellie, Sam, Jim, and Henry.
