Former appointed United States Circuit Judge of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit courthouse district of San Francisco. She was a member of the Washington State Bar Association and one of the first women in US history to become a partner in a major American law firm.

She graduated from high school at age 16, and then attended Stanford University. She graduated in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 19.

Family Life
Her father was a lawyer and he inspired her to also pursue a career in law. She married Robert L. Fletcher, and together they had four children.
